YIGA For Children Foundation
YIGA For Children Foundation
  • Supporting traumatised orphans in a region of Uganda.

Every child is innocent and deserves a wonderful life and a truama free upbringing. This is very rarely experienced in Uganda. Our mission is to change this for as many children as we can. Alleviating pain and providing a safe environment for children to flourish, free of every day worries.

Our charities founder Yiga Ben is a typical example of what other children regular suffer, with a story of personal tragedy and loss. All of the children we care for have lost parents, siblings and entire families.

From tragedy can come strength, Ben has dedicated his recent years to the selfless care and service of others, including his earnings from his employment.

This site acts as an overview of the charity and outlines ways in which you can support Ben on his journey in the protection of others. If you can help, please share our story or where possible any donation would be so very gratefully received.

A Ugandan Children's Charity

How We Started

YIGA For Children Foundation was founded by Yiga Ben.

Ben, as he is more commonly referred to, understands what it means to lose a family. He suffered such trauma at a young age, similarly to most of the children his charity cares for today. Ben spent many years living on the streets and searching for food and a place to sleep. These circumstances are a normal and terrible part of every day life in Uganda.

After finding a full time job far from his home village of Kalagala, Ben decided that he would do what he can with what was now a small but more reliable source of income. What started with a single child, has now led to the daily care of 31 poverty stricken, traumatised children. Ben started by opening up his home to local orphans, providing for their very basic needs to continue living. After a while, word spread further around the local area and new children started arriving.

As of August 2022, Ben continues to work his full time employment with the support of a tiny team. Now caring for 31 orphans, the charity also cares for children from other families who have lost loved ones, by providing a meal at least once per day.  As one can imagine, caring for a small family is challenging enough, let alone an extended family of 31 children+ .

The charities team comprise of few individuals. Ben, has the support from a local church with one particular volunteer who supports with providing daily care for the children full time. Ben, focuses on building sustainable sources of food for the growing family but as one can imagine, this is not easy with limited resources.

With any generous donations received, we plan to build more sustainable food sources and infrastructure to provide greater capacity for the needs of so many young. The next phase is to invest in the educational needs to ensure as the children grow, they become more independent and have the ability to lead positive lives with a broader impact on the local community.

The Charity

YIGA is a charity based in Kalagala Mpigi, Uganda. We currently care for a total of 31 children.

Our purpose is to provide for the immediate needs of unfortunate children who have suffered trauma, such as from the loss of a parent where they can no longer be cared for.

The Children

With ages from as young as 2 up to teenage years, our children have suffered unimaginable loss.

We believe all children deserve a chance for a bright future. They were born into circumstance. They still view the world with the same eyes and innocence, they must be protected.

Your Donations

We need immediate support to ensure the children have continued access to their basic needs.

Your generous support is being utilised to create sustainable farming and infrastructure to help us become more self-sufficient. Every pound or dollar you donate goes a long way, more than you may imagine.

Help Us Break The Cycle

Poor nations suffer with lack of technical expertise and access to funding and investment to even be in a position to build ourselves to a more prosperous future.

By donating to us directly, we take our existence into our own hands and build a better future for the children. We need to break the cycle of poverty and disease.

Where we currently are

We currently only have the needs to provide basic necessities

We try to provide the children with consistent access to basic food and water to keep them fed. We obtain donations and purchase clothes as required to keep the chilren warm and dressed. Without clothing, the children are more exposed to illness and disease.

We also pay for medicines and additional shelter for as many children as we can afford.

We prioritise the care of as many children as we can. With increased donations, we can provide for the basic needs of an even greater number of orphans.

We are looking at sustainable methods to grow and any basics treats for the children on special occasions. Including the provision of their mental health with basic fundamentals as the ability to draw, colour, play together with balls and other sporting activities.
